Red Wings Fined for Comments about the Lockout

Posted: Updated:

The Detroit Red Wings have been fined for comments made by the team's Senior Vice President Jim Devellano.

TSN is reporting the fine is $250,000.

Devellano recently spoke about the lockout in an interview, saying "The owners can basically be viewed as the ranch, and the players, and me included, are the cattle.  The owners own the ranch and allow the players to eat there. That's the way it's always been and that the way it will be forever. And the owners simply aren't going to let a union push them around. It's not going to happen."

League owners and team officials had been warned not to make comments about the lockout.
