Ohio police officer killed in collision with truck

Posted: Updated:

WILLOUGHBY, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a northern Ohio police officer responding to an emergency call has been killed after his cruiser collided with a truck and smashed into a tree.

Police at a news conference Saturday announced the death of 32-year-old Officer Jason Gresko. He was a part-time Willoughby police officer and a full-time officer with Cleveland Clinic police.

Willoughby Police Chief Jack Beckwith says Gresko was traveling north and the pickup was headed south when the crash occurred. WJW-TV reports that Beckwith said it appears the truck turned left into Gresko's path. No one in the truck was injured.

Police photos show the driver's side of Gresko's cruiser ripped open and mangled. The truck had little damage.

Gresko was married with a 2-year-old daughter.

Willoughby is about 20 miles northeast of Cleveland.
