International investors flock to Toledo for conference

Posted: Updated:

More than 150 international investors will check out Toledo over the next two days as part of the '5 Lakes Global Economic Forum' going on through Sept. 26.   Monday night was the kick-off networking event to welcome the investors, many of them from China, to the area.  The goal is to get them looking at the Glass City as a place to grow their businesses.

Local leaders say this forum should provide a great launching pad to get more jobs and companies in northwest Ohio.  If five to ten percent of this week's visiting investors actually develop a project in the area, they'll consider it a success.

"We're trying to encourage a lot of these business owners who are coming here for the forum to look at the Toledo region for research and development, manufacturing and warehousing, which ultimately creates jobs," says Sarah Zimmerman, VP of 5 Lakes Global.

"We're actually re-creating Toledo and we think it's going to be very positive from the standpoint of the international view and the regional view," says Toledo mayor Mike Bell.

The rest of the forum includes a business expo, real estate and education seminars, and a bus tour through the region.
