Special "Vietnam Vets Honor Flight" set for October

Posted: Updated:

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) --  The mission of Honor Flight is shifting. The non-profit organization is branching out, including veterans of both World War II and those who served in more recent wars.

Yesterday, we saw 85 local veterans head for a tour of the war memorials in Washington, D.C. For the first time, that flight included 49 veterans of the Korean War.

It was supposed to be the final Honor Flight of the year.

This morning, 13abc got word: 150 Vietnam Veterans will get their own special trip in late October.  Some of those veterans have been on a waiting list since 2008.

Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio says the family of a WWII vet came forward and requested this special trip.

If you were on the list as a Korean War veteran , you can still get an Honor Flight at the start of the season next year.

As for this Vietnam Honor Flight, there are still 20 seats available. For more information, contact www.honorflightnwo.org.
