TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) -- "Green stormwater" may not conjure up the best images, but it's all about being environmentally sound.
The Midnight Blue and Gold are now seeing green. The University of Toledo is getting a $15,000 grant to help keep the Ottawa River clean.
The river runs through the main campus. UT is expected to run through some options, including how to retrofit its stormwater infrastructure -- making it "green."
The grant money for the project is from the Ohio Lake Erie Protection fund. That helps pay for research and projects, which aim to protect, preserve and restore Lake Erie and its watershed. Funding comes from sales of Ohio's Lake Erie license plate.
This green stormwater project is only one of two awarded in the state. The hope is for designs at UT to become a model for other institutions.
