EVENING NEWS HEADLINES - SEPTEMBER 27, 2012

1. MISSING SYLVANIA WOMAN

A family in Sylvania Township is searching for answers after a mother turns up missing. 59-year old Catherine Sackrider was last seen September 18th leaving her daughter's house. Sackrider, who's from Indiana, was last seen leaving her daughter's Sylvania Township home on September 18th. Earlier this week, Sylvania Township police found her truck at a park. Sackrider's purse and a photo of her late husband were all that was inside.

2. 180TH JOBS

The Ohio National Guard is eliminating one dozen state jobs. 13abc talked with Air Force Major Gary Bentley tonight. he tells us the 180th Fighter Wing is replacing 12 Jobs Ohio workers with federal employees. We're told state workers can still apply for those federal jobs.

3. PRIEST SEX STING

(AP) - A Greek Orthodox priest has pleaded guilty to attempted rape following a police sex sting that developed after the priest posted an ad on an adult social networking site. Patrick Hughes, the former acting dean at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Columbus, was immediately sentenced to six years in prison following today's plea.

4. OBAMA COMING BACK TO OHIO

(AP) - President Barack Obama will return to Ohio next week in the aftermath of the first presidential debate with Republican Mitt Romney. The Obama campaign says the president will stay in Colorado for a campaign event the day after the October 3rd evening debate at the University of Denver, then leave one battleground state for another.

5. ANTI-MUSLIM FILMMAKER JAILED

(AP) - The man behind the anti-Muslim film that has sparked international outrage is behind bars. A federal judge in Los Angeles ordered Nakoula Basseley Nakoula detained because he is considered a flight risk. He was convicted in 2010 for federal check fraud and sentenced to 21 months in prison. Under terms of his probation, he was not allowed to use computers or the Internet for five years without approval from his probation officer.

6. GOVERNMENT EAVESDROPPING

(AP) - The Justice Department's use of electronic devices to intercept phone numbers, email addresses and online information has climbed by 64 percent since 2009. That's according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which says the number of court orders to track incoming and outgoing calls from certain phones rose from more than 23,000 in 2009 to more than 37,000 in 2011.The Justice Department says civil liberties are safeguarded by obtaining court approval to use such surveillance.
