Lissa Guyton remembers sister Lambie's legacy

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Every year thousands of people fill the streets of Downtown Toledo for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

The event raises money to fight breast cancer. This year it is in memory of 13abc reporter Lissa Guyton's sister who lost her fight against the disease last year.

Margaret Guyton Stout was best known to her friends and family by her nickname Lambie.
Friends and family remember her as a woman who truly made a difference in this community.

Lissa's younger sister  Lambie was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 36.

"There are very few truly good people in this world and my sister was one of them, she had an incredible kindness about her that started as a very young child. She loved helping people."

During her six year fight against the disease, Lambie had a mastectomy, as well as chemo and radiation.

Lissa remembers, "Even as we were all falling to  pieces she marched on and she did it with a smile and I am not sure I could do that."

In the middle of her battle Lambie launched a company that helps others.  While going through chemotherapy she was often only able to eat a trail mix inspired by a childhood recipe. Out of that she created Comfort Crunch, a healthy trail mix that is sold worldwide. In true Lambie fashion, a portion of the proceeds benefit cancer research as well as programs that help people fighting the disease

Friend Nicole LeBoutiller says, "She was always putting others before herself and that kind and generous spirit are what we are missing."

During her fight Lambie continued to volunteer her time to local charities and  the dedication she showed to her family, friends and community lives on in her memory.

Lambie started an event called Cocktails for the Cure to raise money for her Race for the Cure team. This years they raised more than $125,000.

That money will go to local charities in her honor, including a program that provides  free mammograms to women in need.

Nicole says, "I think honoring her in that way giving back the way she did and having her legacy live on is what's so important."

It's events like this that ensure her short 42 years of life continue to impact on our community

Lissa says, "She had a lasting impact that will never be erased. All the good she did lives on through those of us who had the privilege of walking through life next to her."

The 19th annual Komen Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure is this Sunday in Downtown Toledo.   Pre-race festivities begin at 7:30am with the 5k kicking-off at 9:30. Lambie's team is called Lambie's Legacy and the race will start off in her memory.
