Party for a cure in Maumee

MAUMEE, Ohio -

It was a party for a cure in Maumee Friday night. We stopped by as organizers set up for a benefit to help Carly Kudzia.

Carly is just one of 95 children in the world diagnosed with progeria, a rare aging disease. But her mother says the two-year-old is doing well.

"She's doing great, she's running around, she's two and has more energy than any person on the planet, always smiling, she's a happy girl"

Carly's mom says last year's event brought in some $26,000 and she expects even more this year. The family has raised more than $150-thousand dollars over the past 18 months.   

All the money raised tonight will help fund research to treat the disease.

    One woman is in the hospital after an early morning fire. The fire started at a duplex on Vance street. Investigators say the home might need to be demolished. When crews arrived on the scene flames were shooting from the roof. The cause is still under investigation.

    We are following breaking news, Toledo Police say a man found shot inside of a car on North Reynolds near Dorr Street has died. Police say Kenneth Collins, 20, was found unconscious inside of a car on North Reynolds early Saturday morning.Investigators say a passerby flagged down a trooper who found Collins inside of the car. Collins later died at the hospital.
