YPSILANTI - Angela Vultaggio's goal midway through the second half lifted host Eastern Michigan University to a 2-1 win over the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team Friday afternoon (Sept. 28). The Mid-American Conference match was held at Scicluna Field.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0-0 in MAC action. The Falcons drop to 1-9-1 and 0-2-1, respectively.
Falcon freshman Jessica Jarvis gave BGSU a 1-0 lead late in the first half, knocking home a cross from sophomore Sidney Huth. But, the Eagles knotted the score on a free kick by Stephanie Clarke early in the second half, and Vultaggio scored off of a Cara Cutaia feed in the 69th minute to give the home team the lead for good.
The Eagles held a 21-14 advantage in total shots, including a 12-3 margin after halftime. Eastern had a narrow 7-6 edge in shots on goal on the afternoon, with both BGSU freshman Jenna Underwood and EMU goalkeeper Jenna O'Dell making five saves.
