CLEVELAND - Junior libero Ashley Dunn was named one of three Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Dunn is the fourth BGSU player in the past three weeks to earn a MAC Player of the Week honor and the second in as many weeks to be named Defensive Player of the Week.
Dunn helped the Falcons to a pair of conference road wins by averaging 6.57 digs per set. She was also perfect on 30 serve receive attempts as the Falcons improved to 4-0 in MAC play with a sweep at Akron and a four-set win at Buffalo.
In the win over Akron, Dunn posted 19 digs and no errors in 16 serve receive attempts, adding two aces and three assists. The next night, she handled a career-best 27 digs and was perfect in 14 serve receive attempts in the win over Buffalo, adding another ace.
In helping the Falcons to a surprising 4-0 league start, Dunn leads the MAC with 5.69 digs per set. As a team, Bowling Green ranks third in the league in digs in conference matches only.
Dunn was named Tri-Defensive Player of the Week along with Buffalo's Kelly Svoboda and Ohio's Meredith Ashy. She joins three teammates who have earned MAC Player of the Week honors in Paige Penrod (MAC Offensive Player of the Week), Lindsey Butterfield (MAC Offensive Player of the Week) and Leah Shaw (MAC Defensive Player of the Week). It is the second time in Dunn's career that she earned the award.
BGSU will try to extend its undefeated start to MAC play Thursday as the Falcons host Miami at 7 p.m. Bowling Green will then host Western Michigan Saturday at 7 p.m.
