The No. 22 Toledo women's cross country team appeared as the third-ranked squad in the NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region Poll, released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association on Monday. The Rockets jumped No. 21 Butler this week after claiming second-place at the Kansas Rim Rock Farm Classic last weekend.
Toledo has appeared in every regional and national poll this season, appearing no lower than fifth and 23rd, respectively.
Toledo led Michigan 37-35 with 200-meters remaining in the 6,000-meter race at Kansas, but the Wolverines finished strong and claimed a nine-point victory over the Rockets, 42-33. Both teams placed their top-five runners among the top-15 finishers. Mackenzie Chojnacky finished third overall with teammate Kaylin Belair at her heels in fourth place to lead the Rockets.
Michigan and No. 14 Michigan State stayed atop the Great Lakes Region this week with No. 20 Notre Dame appearing behind the Rockets in fourth.
The Rockets will undoubtedly appear in this week's national poll and are back in action on Oct. 13 when they travel to Louisville for Pre-Nationals.
