Greenhouse goes up in flames in Monroe, Mich.

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, Mich. -

A greenhouse that stood north of Monroe, Michigan for 73 years is gone. About 75 percent of the North Monroe greenhouse went up in flames overnight.

Deb Staelgraeve's grandparents started the business in 1939. Her family owned it until 2007, and she still lives next door to the business in Frenchtown Township.

Deb and her husband woke up to the smell of smoke, and watched her family's legacy go up in flames.

The woman who rents the building and runs the flower shop says she has insurance and is thankful no one was hurt.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

The Frenchtown Township fire chief says his crew was able to save three attached greenhouses and a shed, but 75% of the property was a loss.

North Monroe Street, between Mall and Stewart, is once again open to traffic.
