Hate crime charges filed against Islamic Center arson suspect

Posted: Updated:
PERRYSBURG, Ohio -

The U.S. attorney's office confirms hate crime charges have been filed against an Indiana man accused of setting a fire at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo.  Those charges include intentional defacing, damaging and destroying religious real property, and using fire and explosives to commit a felony.

Read the affidavit in support of the criminal complaint.

On September 30, investigators say Randolph Linn, 52, set a fire inside the Islamic Center.  The complaint says specifically, "Randolph Linn made entry into the Islamic Center with red plastic container, did enter the ‘prayer room' poured an ignitable liquid on the carpeted floor and did ignite the liquid to cause the fire."

The report does not detail exactly how Linn allegedly got into the building.

It does mention Linn was armed while inside. "Randolph Linn did carry a handgun in his hand inside the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo," it reads.  Further reports go on to call this gun a "large revolver."

Linn is now sitting in Wood County after being picked up in Indiana earlier in the week.

He's due back in court on October 11th.
