The Toledo men's tennis team will host the Rocket Invitational Friday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 6 on the UT Varsity Tennis Courts after not holding the tournament last year due to resurfacing of the facility. The Rockets have played in one fall tournament thus far and hope to build momentum for the ITA Midwest Regionals on Oct. 18.
There are three other teams participating in the Rocket Invite: Ferris State, Wayne State and IUPUI. The format includes doubles play beginning at 9:00 a.m. both days with A Singles and B Singles following.
"This is always fun because we get to play right on center stage of campus," Head Coach Al Wermer said. "I think the guys are making progress with their games through our physical and technical work. We're excited to improve from more real-life situations"
Several players performed well at the Purdue Invite on Sept. 21-23, including sophomore Nick Wong who won the championship match in his singles flight. Wong won five matches while losing just one set en route to his first-career championship.
Fellow sophomore Grant Adams and junior Ben Brocker advanced to the semifinals of their flights, while senior Terence Wiegand played in the semifinal match of his flight's consolation bracket.
Live updates and results will be available through the team's Twitter account (@RocketTennis).
