Corey Harvey (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson H.S.) has been named to the Preseason All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Team and Lourdes University has been picked to finish in fifth place in the preseason poll as voted upon by the league's head coaches.
Harvey, a 6-6 senior forward, was named to the AHAC All-Newcomer Team in 2011-2012 after averaging 12.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for the Gray Wolves. He shot 79.9% from the free throw line, ranking 38th in all of NAIA Division II. Last year he posted a season-high 29 points and 16 rebounds against Indiana Dabney.
"It is nice for Corey to be recognized by the other coaches in the league," head coach Andre Smith stated. "We expect big things out of him this year and he will be a vital part of our success. However, this honor does not mean he can just step out on the court and succeed. He will still have to prove himself over the course of the season."
The Gray Wolves have been tabbed fifth by the other head coaches after finishing 17-16 overall and 9-9 in the WHAC one season ago. Lourdes advanced to the WHAC tournament championship game and earned a bid to the NAIA National Championship Tournament after finishing in a tie for sixth place in the WHAC during the regular season.
Davenport, last year's WHAC regular season and tournament champion has been picked to repeat followed by Cornerstone and Indiana Tech. Madonna was selected to finish fourth, just ahead of Lourdes, while Aquinas was picked sixth. Concordia (Mich.), Siena Heights, and Northwestern Ohio were tabbed seventh, eighth, and ninth respectively, while Michigan-Dearborn, Marygrove, and Lawrence Tech round out the poll.
Lourdes will open the 2012-2013 regular season Nov. 2 at the Trent Allen Memorial Tip-off Tournament hosted by Spring Arbor. The Gray Wolves will face Windsor in the opening round beginning at 8 p.m. in Spring Arbor, Mich.
