TOLEDO, Ohio -

The Toledo Area Humane Society met a goal of finding homes for 878 animals in three months as part of the Rachael Ray/ASPCA 100K Challenge.

This weekend's mega-adoption event at the Westfield Franklin Park Mall drew people from all over the region. The Humane Society teamed up with other animal adoption agencies to find homes for over a hundred pets and now they may be able to save even more animals.

The Rachael Ray/ASPCA $100K challenge offers animal shelters and humane societies across the country a chance to win between $5000 and $125,000 through a combination of adoptions and online votes.

The Toledo Area Humane Society says they have moved to #1 over all in the contest, but  need to continue doing lots of adoptions to stay there. The organization with the most adoptions ABOVE the goal of 300 more adoptions than last year's numbers is the overall winner. They have already won $10,000 after exceeding their three-month adoption goal.

Cyndia Condit from the Humane Society says winning money for the shelters will help get more dogs spayed and nuetered and also help shelters take even better are of homeless animals.

Voting for the next round of the Rachael Ray/ASPCA 100K Challenge starts Oct. 17 at noon.
