
CANTON, MICH. - Lourdes University's men's golf team posted an eighth place finish on Saturday afternoon at the third Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference jamboree of the year held at Fellows Creek Golf Club in Canton, Mich.
The Gray Wolves posted team total of 328, the third best round of the season for Lourdes, and finished just six strokes behind seventh place Aquinas. Davenport won the day's event, firing a round of 297, two shots better than runner-up Siena Heights.
Sean McGuire (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg H.S.) led the way for Lourdes, firing a round of five-over par 77 on the 6,502-yard, par-72 course to tie for 17th place overall. He was just five strokes behind Adam Schmaltz of Siena Heights and Alex Watier of Davenport, who led the conference on the afternoon.
Cody Berg (Garrettsville, Ohio/James A. Garfield H.S.) added an 83 for the Gray Wolves while Nick Flasco (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge H.S.) and Jacob VanDyke (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover H.S.) each carded rounds of 84 each. Brandon Henry (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford H.S.) fired an 86 while Kevin Ritzenhaler (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne H.S.) posted an 87.
"We played better today but we need to play our best golf of the season on Friday," head coach Scott Simon stated.
Lourdes will host the final WHAC jamboree on Friday afternoon at Sylvania Country Club. Play begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start.
