Neighbors of a strip club bouncer who died over the weekend speak out. The bouncer was working at Deju Vu on Byrne when he was punched in the head by a patron. The coroner conducted an autopsy, but results haven't been released just yet.
"It's a rotten shame. They say that the good die young and that's true with Johnny Johnny was one hell of a nice guy," said the victim's neighbor Thomas Couturier
Thomas and Ruthann Couturier say they were shocked to hear about their neighbors death. According to a police report John White was working at Déjà Vu Show Girls on Byrne when he was punched in the head and "knocked out." Court documents state white suffered a skull fracture. He died over the weekend
"I was devastated I thought God because John was so big he wasn't no little boy so it took a pretty good punch to put him down," said Couturier.
"He was a really nice guy and I feel bad he's got a little son who's out 8 or 9. Maybe," said Ruthann Couturier.
They say the victim also has a daughter who adored him
"She hung on to John all the time where john went she wanted to go," said Couturier.
Jamieus Smith, 29, is accused of throwing the punch that police say seriously injured white. Smith was arrested by officers after he tried to hop a fence and get away. White's neighbors say he worked as a bouncer for many years.
Managers at Déjà Vu declined to say when the victim started working for them. Déjà Vu has security camera's. Police have not said if those camera's caught the fight on tape
A police report states that Smith was asked to leave the strip club and became "violent stating he was going to shoot everyone in the place" That's when the 38 year old bouncer was knocked out.
The victims neighbors describe white as a good father and a hard worker who was just trying to make ends meet.
"I know he had a good job and he lost it and then he had a hard time trying to find work because he has back trouble and he's been a security guard for years we'll miss him," said Couturier
The charges against the suspect will most likely be upgraded once the detective speaks to the prosecutor.
