BOLWING GREEN - Bowling Green State University junior libero Ashley Dunn was named Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Dunn earned the honor after averaging 5.25 digs per set to lead the Falcons to a three-set sweep of rival Miami (Ohio) and a five-set win over MAC preseason favorite Western Michigan. Bowling Green improved to 6-0 in conference play to remain the only unbeaten team in MAC action.
Dunn set a career-high with 29 digs in the win over Western Michigan and saved her best for the most crucial situation. In helping the team overcome a 7-3 fifth-set deficit, Dunn posted her highest single-set total of the match with eight digs despite the fact that the fifth set is played to just 15 points. She was also perfect in 26 serve receive attempts in the victory.
In the team's three-set sweep of Miami earlier in the week, Dunn had 13 digs and added five assists. In league matches only, she leads the conference with 5.52 digs per set and ranks in the top 10 in the league with 0.29 aces per set.
The honor marks the second consecutive week in which Dunn earned the award. It is the fifth time in the past four weeks that a BGSU player has earned one of the two MAC Player of the Week awards handed out. It is also Dunn's fourth career MAC East Division Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Now 10-7 overall, Bowling Green hosts Oakland Tuesday night at 7 p.m. with its six-match winning streak on the line. The Falcons will then head on the road to play at Eastern Michigan Friday night at 7 p.m. before facing Central Michigan, the team in first place in the West Division, Saturday night at 7 p.m.
