Local woman reacts to Sandusky sentencing

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

For some the sentencing of Jerry Sandusky is providing some relief for victims of child sex abuse. We talked to one local woman who says even though the sentence has been carried out the victims are scarred for life.

Kelly Meister's eyes stay fixed on the TV screen as she waits to learn Jerry Sandusky fate. It's also time spent reliving the frightening memories of her past.

"I was molested by my father for over 10 years. I was less than two. Very young when you're a child, being molested goes to the core of your being a steals your soul," says Kelly Meister

Now at 49 years old Kelly says those thoughts from her childhood continue to haunt her. For years up until her father died, it stayed a secret.

"Never having to face justice for what he had done and that's probably the cruelest part if not the molestation itself there are reminders every single day of what happened to me", Says Meister

A judge sentenced Jerry Sandusky to at least 30 years in prison. Kelly says that's simply not long enough.

"It's never going to be enough. They could sentence Jerry Sandusky to 500 years and it wouldn't be enough because the kids are going to be scarred for life", Says Meister

All the while Sandusky still maintaining his innocence.

"it's despicable to turn the blame back on the victims because they're just raking these victims over the coals yet again," says Meister

Kelly says her own personal therapy is time spent volunteering at animal shelters and writing.
