Childhood cancer non-profit needs donations

Posted: Updated:

A local woman lost her son to cancer and now she is working to pay it forward.

Comforting Hearts is a non-profit aimed giving a bag of hope to children who are enduring cancer treatments.

Now the organization needs your help.

Kele Pallitta lost her son Elias Adan to cancer at just 7 months old.

"You go to the hospital with a child and leave without one, that turns your world upside down, says Pallitta.

Now 4 and half years later, her mission is helping other cancer families. Pallitta started Comforting Hearts, a non-profit in memory of her son.

The group collects fun things for kids to pass the time during chemo treatments, along with necessities like Chapstick and snacks.

The donations start at the office in Perrysburg, are packaged up, and then dropped off to children fighting cancer at local hospitals.

In the past year, Comforting Hearts has donated 100 bags and Pallitta says her work is far from over.

"To us the pain these parents are going through i cannot imagine, this is my mission forever, says Pallitta.

There is a special fundraiser tomorrow night, October 10, for Comforting Hearts at Registry Bistro in downtown Toledo.

The event runs from 4:30-8p.m. with cocktails, local jewelers and designers.

There is also a fashion show hosted by 13abc's Sashem Brey and our Christina Williams will be modeling.

You are asked to bring items from the wish list that will then be put into the cancer bags.
