The Wood County Sheriff's Department is urging residents to lock their car doors. The sheriff says they've had a rash of thefts from cars.
People who live in the Village of Portage say it's rare to hear about thefts, but over the weekend investigators say someone stole items from cars.
"I was lucky enough I keep all my stuff in the garage locked up guess I'm pretty lucky they didn't get me," said Thomas Deen.
Thomas Deen says the thieves ripped off both of his neighbors. According to police reports the suspects stole money, wallets, and car rims. The sheriff office has seen numerous reports from bowling green , Jerry city and other parts of Wood county.
"Its very important to lock the vehicles none of the items were taken from locked vehicles," said Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn
The sheriff says many of these items taken were in plain sight. The sheriff suspects the thieves are teenagers
"If you see something suspicious please call us and if you can without harming you self if you can do it in a way that you're not putting yourself at risk get us a license number, " said the sheriff.
Deen says he's taken measures to protect himself. He put up a fence
"I keep my doors locked at night luckily I have a privacy fence they can't get in my back yard," said Deen
