Hundreds of seasonal jobs at local company

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of new seasonal jobs are coming to a Northwest Ohio company. BX Solutions has been in business for about a year and they are hiring again. The company plans to fill the seasonal positions in the next couple weeks for the upcoming holiday season. About 500 people will be brought in to help with the extra work they'll have during the holidays.

On Tuesday the Toledo Lucas County Port Authority helped celebrate the success of the company with a one year anniversary party. Right now the facility runs on two shifts, those shifts will be expanded along with the workforce during November and December, and that may not be the end of the good news .

BX Solutions is a transportation and distribution company based at Toledo Express in the old BAX Global facility. Chris Marshall is the CEO,"As we wrap up the first year we are in a very comfortable position. We are working on some projects that we are very excited about and through that we are expecting more growth next year. It's a good position to be in."

BAX Global shut down last year leaving an empty building and hundreds out of work, but within months, the Port Authority had invested 2.5 million in the building and BX Solutions got off the ground.

Bill Carroll is the Chairman of the Board of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority. He says this is a great example of a public/private partnership,"One of the things the Port Authority is trying to do is more public/private partnerships. We've got some great examples in the community like BX that show what you can do when you come together to create jobs."

In its first year BX has created about 500 full and part time jobs. Many of the employees used to work for BAX Global and that experience is paying off for BX. Matt Sapara is the Chief Operating Officer of the Port Authority,"There's a lot of opportunity and the great thing about working with BX is that they are always open to that opportunity. Being here in Northwest Ohio you have to have that aggressiveness to go into the market and see things others don't, to be successful."

John Johnson says the best part of BX is the employees, like many of them he worked at BAX and like the others he's gone through a wide range of emotions in the last year, "We felt a lot of uncertainty and shock when we learned that BAX was closing, but look at us one year later, you have to be amazed."

As of now BX moves its customers products with trucks, but Marshall says adding cargo planes to the fleet is a possibility, "We're very careful as a management team that we are growing at a sustainable rate. We are focused on our core and taking care of our employees. We are trying to grow as quickly as we can while keeping our foundation safe."

BX Solutions will be hiring about 500 seasonal part time and full time employees to keep up with increased demand during November and December. Manpower will be handling the hiring process and is hosting a job fair Thursday at the Third Floor Roost at Fifth Third Field in downtown Toledo. The job fair will run from 11am-2pm and from 5pm-8pm.
