Mich. cancer patient embarrassed by TSA

Posted: Updated:

A Michigan woman dying of leukemia says she hopes her embarrassing experience at a Seattle airport changes the way the Transportation Security Administration treats travelers with medical conditions.

Michelle Dunaj was forced to lift her shirt and pull back bandages in view of others in line, even after requesting privacy.

She says she was told "no," despite the fact she was carrying documentation and had called the airline in advance.

The security screening happened last week as the Detroit-area woman was traveling through Seattle on her way to Hawaii.

A TSA spokeswoman says it is against policy for passengers to be denied privacy if they ask.
