Hundreds waited in line Tuesday night at the Summit YMCA to meet the October ninth voter registration deadline.
Nearly eight million Ohioans are signed up to vote, but that number is expected to go up on Wednesday as more people enter the system. And more than 59,000 people in the Buckeye State have already cast a ballot.
Those waiting Tuesday night in Lucas County say they're excited to see the 2012 election season unfold.
"We're excited, this is a big night," says Nancy Gordon, who brought four family members to vote including her daughter, a first time voter. "We're going out to dinner, we're taking pictures, we're happy to be here."
"Voting is very important," noted Dr. Pat McKinstry. Her church, Worship Center, sent over a hundred members to register or cast an early ballot on Tuesday, and has been actively getting members signed up. "A lot of lives were paid just to vote, and we shouldn't forget that."
In addition to early voting, absentee ballots are also going out. More than a million Ohio residents have applied for an absentee ballot and another 13,000 overseas and military ballots have also been requested.
