Hampton Named to the Preseason All-WHAC Team while Lourdes Women are Picked Ninth in Preseason Poll

Posted: Updated:

Lourdes University's Tarynn Hampton (Saint Louis, Mo./Alton H.S.) has been voted to the  All Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Preseason Team while the Gray Wolves were tabbed ninth in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.

Hampton, a member of the WHAC All-Newcomer Team one year ago, led Lourdes averaging 15.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest in 2011-2012.  The 5-11 forward also led the Gray Wolves with 57 steals on the year and shot 43.1% from the floor.

"It's a great honor for Tarynn and nice of the other coaches in the league to recognize her ability," head coach Zareth Gray stated.  "She will be a big key to our success this year."

A junior, Hampton scored 20 or more points in a game seven times, including a season-high 28 points against Michigan-Dearborn.  She ranked fourth in NAIA Division II averaging 4.5 offensive boards per game, and was 22nd in the country in rebounds per game.

The Gray Wolves were picked ninth by the coaches after posting a 5-25 record overall and a 0-18 mark in WHAC play in their inaugural season.   Lourdes tallied 43 points in the preseason poll, five more than 10th place Michigan-Dearborn.

Concordia(Mich.) was selected as the preseason favorite, garnering seven of the 12 first place votes, with Davenport, which picked up the five other first place tallies, picked second.  Madonna was tabbed third, followed by Cornerstone, Aquinas, and Siena Heights.  Northwestern Ohio was selected to finish seventh followed by Indiana Tech and the Gray Wolves.  Lawrence Tech and Marygrove rounded out the poll, picked 11th and 12th respectively.

Lourdes will open the 2012-2013 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27, as the Gray Wolves host Indiana-South Bend.  Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. at Tam-o-Shanter.
