Mom killed waiting for school bus, hit by teen driver

MONROE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -
Shelly M. Deaton was hit and killed by a car while waiting for her daughter to get on the school bus. It happened at 6:50 a.m. Friday morning in Monroe Township on Nobil Drive off of Kay Drive.
Michigan State Police say a teenage girl was driving to school, when a water bottle got loose in the car. She lost control of the car when she reached down and tried to retrieve the bottle.
Police say the girl drove off the road, into the grass, across a driveway, and struck a 42-year-old mother who was waiting for her 14 -year-old daughter to get on the school bus. Police say the daughter did not see her mother's accidnt.
The car ended up hitting a tree in a front yard.
No charges have been filed at this time. State police are continuing to investigate.
