The Bowling Green State University softball team announced its 2013 schedule Tuesday, once again showcasing a heavy number of road contests to start the season. The Falcons will compete in four pre-conference tournaments at the beginning of the year, and are scheduled to play in 25 road games before finally facing Ball State University in a doubleheader ( March 29) at Meserve Field.
Bowling Green will open the season with a four-game set in the USC Upstate Spartan Invitational Tournament, Feb. 15-17. The Falcons are right back at it the following week (Feb. 22-24), competing in five contests at the Phyllis Rafter Memorial in Woodstock, Ga.
The team will then head to Johnson City, Tenn. for four games in the Buccaneer Challenge (March 2-3), followed by back-to-back road doubleheaders against Eastern Kentucky (March 5) and Western Kentucky (March 6).
Bowling Green's final pre-conference tournament will be held in Evansville, Ind. from March 8-10, with opponents and times still being finalized.
The Falcons will play an additional five games on the road, including a single game against Michigan, March 27, before playing their first home game on March 29.
Bowling Green will play four other non-conference doubleheaders this season, including road sets against Dayton (March 16), Wright State (March 21) and Detroit Mercy (April 2). The Falcons will also play one home non-conference doubleheader against IPFW on April 23.
The Orange and Brown welcome MAC foes Ball State, Miami, Akron, Ohio, Buffalo, Kent State and Toledo to Meserve field this season, after going 11-5 at home in 2012.
Bowling Green looks to build off a 36-22 record last year, one of the strongest seasons in program history. The Falcons fell one win short of tying the school's single-season record (37), set back in 2006.
