Puppy shot twice gets a home

Posted: Updated:

A disturbing case of animal abuse has a happy ending and you can be part of the celebration. Kirby is a pit bull puppy that was shot and left for dead in Toledo. He's made a remarkable recovery and he will make his first public appearance this weekend before going to his forever home.

The Lucas County Pit Crew will mark "National Pit Bull Awareness Day" this Saturday, and Kirby will be there. There will be other dogs up for adoption, a costume contest and a free rabies clinic.

Jean Keating heads up the Lucas County Pit Crew and she is excited for everyone to meet Kirby and learn more about the breed. "Kirby was found by Toledo police," she says. "He was shot twice in the chest he was left on the curb bleeding to death. He was taken to the vet and he had to have his leg amputated because of the injury, but he is doing great and we will formalize his adoption at the event this Saturday."

The local Pit Bull Awareness Day event is this Saturday from noon-3pm in Spring Meadows Plaza on Airport Highway.

In cooperation with Humane Ohio there will be a free rabies clinic from noon-1pm for all dogs and there will be some free vouchers to spay or neuter Pit Bulls. The popular costume contest is at 1:30pm. The event is free and all breeds of dogs are welcome.
