The Lucas County Sheriff's Department says a deputy was hit with shrapnel Thursday morning while responding to a call. It happened at a home near the intersection of Maumee-Western and Eber.
A man fired shots at the responding officers from inside the house. The deputy was hit in the ear, but we're told he'll be fine.
After firing tear gas into the house, police entered and found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
