SANDUSKY, Ohio -
The suspect in the stabbing death of a Sandusky woman is now officially charged with one count of murder.
According to the Erie County jail website, Theodis Keys Jr. is being held on a $1 million bond. Keys, 33, was arraigned yesterday after Sandusky police say he turned himself in.
The victim is Lorie Miller. She was a mother of two who worked at the Kalahari waterpark resort.
Wednesday afternoon, Sandusky police say Miller's 13-year-old son came home from school to find his mother's body. She was inside their home on East Follett St.
Neighbors are shocked saying the couple showed no signs of any problems.
"They were nice," says Cory Dreiling, who lives down the street. "I mean I waved to the lady every morning every time she goes to work."
Lt. John Orzech says Miller wanted her boyfriend to move out. Keys turned himself into police. The couple didn't have a record of violence.
"There was a relationship issue going on and our understanding is she wanted to end the relationship," says Orzech.
Since July there have been six murders in Sandusky. Most of those are domestic violence related.
"It is getting violent and we've noticed a trend where parents or significant others don't have an avenue to release their anger and it's resulted in these type of situations," says Orzech.
Just last month a mom, 23-year-old Heather Jackson, and her two young kids, 3-year-old Celina and 18-month-old Wayne, were found choked to death inside their home on John Street.
The man charged is a convicted felon, 41-year-old Curtis Clinton, who had been friends with the mom since he was released from prison back in February.
"This is extraordinary in our community to have this many homicides in this short a period of time. Historically we have one, sometimes none, during the year," says Orzech.
Orzech says anyone who believes they're in danger needs to take action.
"Call police, there's safe harbor locally here that has done a wonderful job, they will house women and children, it's a domestic violence shelter," says Orzech.
Police say Miller's two kids are now staying with relatives. Keys is expected to return to court next week.
