Bowling Green State University senior Emily Bennet has been named the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week for the first time in her career, after leading the Falcons to a dominant showing at the Tom Stubbs Relays last week.
Bennet helped the Falcons claim the top spot in eight of ten races over Toledo, Akron and Youngstown State, taking first place in every race she entered. Bennet was part of five winning relays for Bowling Green: the 200 and 400 medley relays, the 3x100 backstroke and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, serving as the team's anchor in all but one of those races.
Bennet helped set meet records in two of those relays - the 3x100 backstroke and 400 medley relay. Bennet, Alexa Harris and Jen Beatty swam the 3x100 back in 2:54.27 - eclipsing the previous mark of 2:55.15 set by Akron in 2009. Bennet, Harris, Alexis Kain and Jordan Bullock went on to crush the previous meet record of 3:55.25 in the 400 medley relay, finishing in a time of 3:52.02 - more than seven seconds ahead of second-place Toledo.
Bowling Green opens the regular season on Friday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m., swimming against Wayne State and Ashland at Cooper Pool.
