Toledo's Idle Time Club needs help

Posted: Updated:

Since 1973 The Idle Time Club has been a safe haven in East Toledo. The non profit organization offers housing, 12 step classes, food, and clothing to people who feel powerless over alcohol.

It helped Pastor Omar Jackson.  He tells 13abc, "It straightened people like me out...I was lost I didn't have no clothes, I didn't have any place to stay. I was on the streets doing drugs, and alcohol and then I came here and found hope."

Pastor Omar Jackson now volunteers at the club that saved his life, but now club leaders say they need a miracle of their own.   The boiler isn't working and they owe money to Uncle Sam. Roy Adams manages The Idle Time club. The group receives no state or federal funding but relies on donations to keep the doors open.

Adams tells 13abc,  "It's considered a walk in facility, anybody struggling with there addiction are welcome to come here, and have a cup of coffee and talk over their situation because there's always people here you can talk to that's already been down the road and made it back." Adams fears that if the doors are not open, many of the people who are staying here to get help, will turn back to the streets.

Adams tells 13abc, "They would do what they normally do commit crimes drink and drug."  Adams hopes the community can help the club by sending the club donations so they can pay their taxes and get a new boiler.

If you would like to help you can mail a donation to The Idle Club 2044 Gennesee Street, Toledo, Ohio 43605.
