A few years ago, Cody Houghtalling found himself falling through the ropes. He tells 13abc, "I was getting in a lot of trouble hanging out with my buddies and I wasn't doing good in school c's and d's and when I started coming to this program I had a bad attitude I didn't respect no one I was a punk."

The International Boxing Club didn't stand for Cody's behavior, so he was kicked out. Two weeks later he came back and asked for a second chance.

He tells 13abc,  "My grades improved, my attitude improved, I had respect for people."

Six years later, Cody is being groomed to run the place.  Harry Cummins is the founder of The International Boxing Club. Last night, Cummins says he was struck with a low blow. He learned his kids can no longer compete or practice because USA boxing is suspending amateur boxing for three months.

All boxing club activities must be canceled. Cummins tells 13abc, "That's where I draw the line...I will not shut our doors I will not turn my back on these kids."

USA boxing is being punished for not removing a former president who made comments that associated boxing with homosexuality and child abuse.

Cummins feels the kids are paying the price.  "They are surrounded by gangs and the gang members even some of them want to come in and get away from the gangs and they come in here. we push education this is free of charge, for the kids but it is mandatory for them to bring their school work we have tutors so we are teaching them to be champions in life."

Cummins refuses to throw in the towel. He'll cancel Friday night's tournament, but the mentoring and the workouts will go on.  He tells 13abc, "I refuse and I am ready to face the punishment."

Cummins knows his club keeps kids out of trouble and away from gang life, and he's willing to go toe-to-toe with the International Federation for Boxing to save his kids
