The Toledo men's tennis team will play in the Wildcat Invite hosted by Northwestern in Chicago, IL. The weekend tournament is the third event played on a Big Ten school's campus this fall for the Rockets. All action will be played indoors at the Combe Tennis Center, as play begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday and 8:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The field includes members from Arkansas, Northwestern, Toledo, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, DePaul, Marquette, Purdue, Illinois State and Iowa.
"We may not get a lot of matches due to a shortened format stemming from weather issues," Head Coach Al Wermer said. "But, Northwestern is a huge opportunity for our players and for us to evaluate. Although there are several individual tournaments in the next two months, this is one with our full team plus our coaching."
Four Rockets played in the ITA Midwest Regionals last weekend at Michigan State. Senior Francisco Stuardo notched the only win for the Rockets in his opening singles qualifier match. The senior defeated UIC's Alex Raa 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4).
The last time UT competed as team happened on Oct. 6 when they hosted the Rocket Invite. They finished their only home tournament of the fall with a combined 21-11 record, including a 15-7 mark in singles play. Junior Ben Brocker and freshman Matt Wareti led the team with undefeated records over the two days.
