9th congressional candidates face off

Posted: Updated:

It was their first and only formal debate of the campaign.  Ninth district congressional candidates Marcy Kaptur and Samuel Wurzelbacher squared off Friday night on 13abc in a forum co-sponsored with the Toledo Blade.  The two candidates touched on many issues like healthcare, job creation and the auto bailout: key topics that affect citizens in Northwest Ohio.

Samuel Wurzelbacher says one of his first priorities if elected, is to repeal the Affordable Care Act.  The Republican also favors tax code replacement and regulation reform...two problems he sees in creating jobs.

Congresswoman Kaptur spent part of her time not only pushing her platform, but also campaigning for other democrats like 5th District Congressional candidate Angela Zimman and President Obama. Kaptur believes the local economy is moving in a positive direction, and staunchly defended the Affordable Care Act.

"Obama does care, I care. I care about all people, not just the one percent, not just the 53 percent, 100 percent of the American people," said Kaptur.

"My position here is not to further the Republican Party, far from it.  I need everybody in my district is to be successful, to have the opportunity to be successful, and to not have the federal government step in the way," said Wurzelbacher.
