As Hurricane Sandy continues to churn northeast, parallel to the Georgia and Carolina Coast, the National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Watch for Erie and Huron Counties, for Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning. After the storm curves northwest into the Middle Atlantic Coast, winds will gust over 45 mph in the city of Toledo. To the east of I-75, especially near the lakeshore, winds will gust higher, potentially to 60 mph on Monday night and Tuesday. Those winds will cause waves on Lake Erie to grow larger than 10 feet, and lakeshore flooding is becoming likely for some areas immediately south of the Lake. This Saturday night, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect, but a Storm Watch has been issued for the early part of the workweek for Lake Erie. Also, along the Monroe County, Michigan lakeshore, a Gale Watch is in effect for the early part of the workweek. Prepare for gusty winds, and potential power outages, especially east of Toledo, near the lakeshore.
