Red Cross urges local donation to offset storm shortage

According to the Red Cross Hurricane Sandy is already affecting blood supplies as several American Red Cross blood drives have been called off due to the storm.
More cancellations are anticipated after the storm hits. The cancellations have caused a shortfall of several hundred units of blood and platelets. The situation is expected to worsen as the storm passes through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
The Red Cross moved blood and blood products to those areas likely to be affected. And the agency is asking people who are not in the path of the storm to donate blood to offset the shortage.
Locally the Red Cross has a blood drive scheduled at the University of Toledo at Savage Hall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 30th. In addition the Toledo Blood donation Center on Executive Parkway will be open 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday the 30th as well.
