The high winds started early Monday morning in the island communities of Ottawa County. Even before Sandy makes landfall, transportation on Lake Erie to the islands is at a standstill.
High winds are ripping across Lake Erie. By early Monday morning, waves crashed over the break wall, and the Miller Boat Line made its final trip to the islands. The ferry decided to shut down until further notice.
The high winds are affecting the beaches too. At East Harbor State Park, the high winds are causing massive erosion to the beach.
The worst of the storm is expected overnight. The Port Clinton Salvation Army isn't wasting any time preparing. The Emergency Canteen is ready to hit the streets and help residents in need.
With waves expected to reach anywhere from 10 to 20 feet, flooding roads near the lakeshore and damage to boats, piers and docks are a concern.
