NEW LOCAL NEWS

1. TURNPIKE BAN

The Ohio Turnpike Commission has placed a High Wind Ban in effect until 10am Tuesday. When a High Wind Ban is in effect, triple-trailer commercial vehicles, mobile homes, boat and horse trailers among other high profile vehicles are banned from traveling the Ohio Turnpike. The ban is a result of the superstorm that's slammed the east coast. Hurricane Sandy has been downgraded but winds of 50 mph are anticipated as it marches across land toward Ohio and Michigan.

3. OHIO EARLY VOTING

(AP) - High winds haven't deterred early voters in central Ohio from casting their ballots in the presidential swing state. Election officials in Franklin County say more than 800 people voted in person before noon today despite the windy and wet conditions.

4. OHIO MENINGITIS

(AP) - Ohio now has 13 illnesses linked to a larger meningitis outbreak and recalled steroid injections for back pain. Ohio Department of Health officials announced two more cases today. They involve a 39-year-old Clermont County man and a 56-year-old Warren County woman.

5. POWER LOSSES

(AP) - Large sections of Manhattan are without power because of Superstorm Sandy. Consolidated Edison reports that power went for most of Manhattan south of 26th Street. On the east side, the power outage extended from 29th Street south. A spokesman says flooding apparently damaged a transmission feeder. The outage is separate from a planned power cut that Con Ed did in certain lower neighborhoods to protect underwater systems from flood damage.

6. TALL SHIP

(AP) - A tall ship originally built for the 1962 film "Mutiny on the Bounty" and has been featured in several other films has sunk off the coast of North Carolina in immense waves churned by Hurricane Sandy. The Coast Guard rescued 14 of the 16 people aboard. Hours later, rescuers found a missing crew member but she is unresponsive. The captain is still missing.
