Bursts of wind and rain Tuesday morning in Northwest Ohio caused problems on the highways, interstates and turnpike.
A semi crash slowed down traffic on the turnpike. The truck lost control, slamming through the guard rail. Traffic was constricted on each side of the turnpike to one lane as the scene was cleared.
Troopers with Ohio State Highway Patrol say the driver lost control, but the elements outside deserve the blame.
"Weather did have something to do with this," says Sgt. Terrell Campbell. "It was sleeting, raining at the time."
The trailer overturned, spilling hundreds of boxes into the median, along with over a hundred gallons diesel fuel.
Officials say the heavy load was no match for the strong gusts of wind believed to have played a part in the driver swerving off the road.
Officials say drivers should take notice. It's more important than ever to drive carefully.
The driver and the passenger of the semi are both expected to be ok.
