Columbia Gas of Ohio crews are responding to a significant natural gas outage in South Toledo in the area bounded by Byrne Road, Glanzman Road, Detroit Avenue and Schneider Road.
A valve on a regulation station failed to respond to meet the need for increased natural gas pressure, creating an outage of approximately 1,100 homes.
This incident is not related to Hurricane Sandy.
Columbia Gas wants impacted customers to know:
Columbia Gas crews are canvassing the area to shut-off natural gas service.
If your meter is located inside, Columbia Gas will need to gain access to your meter.
Once the system is purged, restoration will begin. Columbia Gas crews will return to each residence and business to turn the gas back on and re-light appliances.
At this time, someone needs to be home to provide access.
For residents not home, a notice will be left with the number to call to get service restored.
Residents are encouraged to leave a porch light on if Columbia Gas has not been to your home.
All Columbia employees carry picture identification and will gladly show it if asked.
Columbia Gas will offer updates as the evening and outage progresses.
