Columbia Gas restoring service house by house

Posted: Updated:

More than 1,000 South Toledo residents are back on the grid tonight after a massive gas outage. Columbia Gas crews spent all day restoring service to customers.

Early Wednesday morning, more than 60 crews from around the state geared up and hit the streets. Workers fanned out across the South Toledo neighborhood between Schenider Road, South Detroit, Glaznman and Byrne restoring gas service.

Late Tuesday afternoon, a low pressure valve forced Columbia Gas to shut off service to more than 1,000 homes, leaving residents in the cold.

At last check, Columbia Gas says it's restored service to just over 600 homes. Crews continue going door to door, hoping to restore service to the rest of those customers affected Wednesday evening.

Crews say their biggest challenge is getting access to homes.

If you're home right now and need your gas service restored, call Columbia Gas at 1-800-344-4077.
