Local union leaders fired up about Romney ad

Posted: Updated:

Local UAW leaders are angry about a Romney campaign ad that references the fact that Jeeps will be built in China.

Union leaders say at the very least the ad is misleading and deceptive. Bruce Baumhower is the President of UAW Local 12, the union the represents local Jeep workers. He says they began building Jeeps in China decades ago.

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne sent a letter to employees this week saying, "Jeep assembly lines will remain in operation in the United States  and will constitute the backbone of the brand. It is inaccurate to suggest anything different."

Chrysler just invested $500 million in the Toledo Assembly Complex and 1,100 new workers will be hired early next year in Toledo.

The Romney campaign is not backing down from the ad, saying Jeeps will be built in China. While that is factually correct, Chrysler leaders say the implication that it may cost American Jeep workers their jobs is way off base.
