Cygnet girl honored for life-saving actions

Posted: Updated:

Dressed in her Halloween best, Mallory Miller, 7, was honored by her community for her quick actions after her sister Emily, 3, started choking.

"I feel good that I saved her," she said.

Her mother, Lindsay Miller said, "its for a good cause.  I'm so happy and blessed that the community came together and supporter our family."

The Miller's youngest daughter suffers from cerebral palsy and often has issues with choking.  So, the whole family took a CPR class at the fire station.

"With Emily's disabilities we never know on a daily basis what is going to happen," Lindsay said.

Mayor of Cygnet, Nancy Myers says Mallory was very brave and that's why she and the village council named October 31st "Mallory Jean Miller Day."  The hope is to continue to share the story and encourage other families to take a class so they know what to do just in case.

"Privately I get so emotional over it because I'm so proud of my girls," Lindsay said.

The fire department wants more people to take a class.  On November 11, 2012, at the Cygnet Fire Department, there will be a community wide class.  It starts at 2 p.m.
