Toledo Police are going beyond patrols to solve crimes and catch criminals in the act. Today Police Chief Derrick Diggs showed off the departments new Sky Cop camera system, an elaborate surveillance system that can see the entire city.

Terrence Threadgill hopes it forces people to think twice before committing a crime. "Right now I think its necessary to keep out young people alive because a lot of them are shooting each other and killing each other without having an opportunity to grow up," he says.

Officers will be able to see crimes in progress and hopefully catch the suspect.  29 year old Ahmed Abdullah works at a local gas station in central Toledo. A high crime area where there's been murders and numerous shooting. Police patrol the area 24-7.  A sky cop camera sits up high directly across the street from the gas station. He says he's seen less problems since the camera went up.

"It's better for the community. People are scared are being recorded. People are fighting outside and shooting each other ," said store clerk Ahmed Abdullah.

On the city's East side near this convenience store across from the Weiler homes. More eyes are watching. Donovan Smith lives in the housing development.

"I just like it cause of the crime and stuff. Keep it safe and clean so the kids can play and stuff," said Donovan Smith.

The camera's are designed to record audio and video. Video that police say sometimes tells the entire story.
