Super Saving Mom helps needs help with Sandy relief efforts

13abc's Super Saving Mom, Joni Meyer-Crothers needs your help to provide relief for families hit hard by Sandy.

Hurricane Sandy has devastated so many lives in New York City. Some families are now digging in the garbage in hopes of finding food.

A mega pastor from one of the biggest churches in New York has reached out to our own Super Saving Monday contributor and TLC's Extreme Coupon mom, Joni Meyer-Crothers, asking her to get a truck, fill it with food and get it to New York City by Sunday.

Now she's hoping you will help her answer the call. Visit her website for information about how you can help.

"Its very hard for me to watch it because its home to me.  20 years ago me and my kids were hungry," she said.  "We live in the United States and there's devastation.  We can't let our brothers and sisters be hungry, we can't let little kids be going through the garbage."

Donations on non-perishable food items, bottled water, blankets and coats were collected Saturday until 6 p.m. at the Sylvania Area Family Services, 5440 Marshall Rd, Sylvania Ohio.

But she also needs a truck to fill and gas to get there.

Even though this sounds like a daunting task, Joni says she is confident that her faith and this community will answer the call.
