Man shot and robbed in Old West End

Posted: Updated:

A Toledo man is in serious condition after he's beaten up and shot in front of his home. Police say the victim was returning home from shopping when the suspects tried to rob him.

It happened last night in the Old West End at 2473 Parkwood near Delaware.

Mario Carter lives in the Old West End and says times are changing.

"It's more a younger disrespectful crowd that comes thru here. It's getting wild you used to be able to stay over here and it was the place to be the Old west end area we all know that but its way different now," said resident Mario Carter."

Police continue to look for the suspects who beat up, robbed and shot Fredrick McCoy. They say it happened last night as McCoy returned home from shopping. The victim was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the leg and cut on his head.

One of the suspects was wearing a Halloween mask. Carter lives a block or so away from where the victim was shot.

"I heard a couple of shots. I looked at the window and seen the cops coming," said Carter.

The shooting came just hours after Toledo unveiled its new real time crime center.  The network of live cameras records video and audio. Some of the cameras are in high crime areas.

Investigators say last night crime wasn't caught on tape because there's no camera close to the crime scene.

"I wish they would put up a camera and a speed bump. During the night time its not even safe out here," said Carter.

Carter says as police continue to search for the suspects he'll take the necessary safety measures to keep his family safe.
