Police talk to potential witness in shooting spree

Posted: Updated:

WIXOM, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a man wanted as a possible witness to a Michigan shooting spree has stepped forward and talked to investigators.

The man contacted the task force Friday night after police released gas station surveillance photos to the news media. Wixom Police Chief Clarence Goodlein says the man was very cooperative and had no role in the shootings. No name was released.

Twenty-four shootings have been reported in four counties in and near the Interstate 96 corridor, from Ingham to Oakland counties. One driver was injured. All but 2 of the shootings occurred two weeks ago.

Police increased patrols on I-96 for fans attending the Michigan State football game. Some high school bands traveling to Detroit for a competition avoided I-96 Saturday.
