A South Toledo woman is dead after what police call a "domestic situation" at the Heather Hills Apartment complex in South Toledo.
Police say Charity Marshall, 25, shot and killed herself during a standoff.
Around 5 pm Saturday, Toledo Police received a call from a man involved in a domestic dispute. The man told police he was arguing with his girlfriend and walked away to the bathroom. Then he heard a gunshot and called police.
Sgt. Joe Heffernan says, "The call got updated later to a person shot inside the apartment. We had our negotiators respond. The negotiators were talking with the male subject who had locked himself in the bathroom."
For nearly two hours Toledo Police, the SWAT Team and the Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad surrounded the building. Negotiators established communication with the barricaded man. Once they lost contact, the SWAT Team forced their way inside the apartment unit, where they found the body of a woman. The man in the apartment surrendered immediately and was taken in for questioning.
Police say it appears Marshall turned the gun on herself and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
